Randi Weingarten's July 4th Tweet Had People Laughing - but for All the Wrong Reasons

Many people were acknowledging Independence Day on Friday.

But a post by American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten that had many people talking. It wasn’t so much about what she was saying to acknowledge the holiday, but the way that she expressed it that caught people’s eyes. For the head of a teachers union, it had some pretty glaring errors.

Weingarten described the sun “peaking” from behind the flag. Of course, the proper word is “peeking.” Then too, she didn’t even seem to know how to spell “4rth” on the 4th of July. How embarrassing is that? She also spelled “thru” with a common internet abbreviation. Technically, it should be “through,” although I would probably give her a pass on that one. There also was no period.

She then changed the post, yet still had the problem with “peaking,” a missing comma after July, and a problem spelling “4rth.” She changed it a third time and still had the problem with “4rth” showing it wasn’t a question of typos (or voice-to-text), as well as the missing comma.

If she manages to change it again and finally get it correct, then the “4rth” time might be the charm, school choice activist Corey DeAngelis suggested.

She’s had a problem with “4rth” before, so it wasn’t a one-time mistake. And of course, she turned off the replies to cut people off from replying. I always wonder why liberals bother to do this when you can quote tweet them anyway. So they’re not truly cutting off comment; they showing they’re cowards.

It’s hard to believe that she was a teacher, much less the head of a teachers union, with mistakes like this. Is there any wonder that education is in such trouble when you have “leaders” who get such basic things wrong? It certainly says something about the nature of the leadership they’re picking.
