Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) had a warning for Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele about his growing relationship with President Trump, noting the Trump administration “is not going to last forever.”

Raskin joined MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sunday, just days after Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) met with wrongfully deported man Kilmar Abrego Garcia and as Trump and Bukele signaled they would not return him to Maryland.

“Look, President Bukele, who’s declared himself a dictator, and the other tyrants, dictators, autocrats of the world, have to understand that the Trump administration is not going to last forever,” Raskin said.

“We’re going to restore strong democracy to America, and we will remember who stood up for democracy in America, and who tried to drive us down towards dictatorship and autocracy.”

Raskin’s remarks come as Bukele, who recently met with Trump in the Oval Office, has brushed off calls to return Abrego Garcia to United States custody.

The Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to “facilitate” the return of the Maryland man, but the order left wiggle room for the administration to point fingers at El Salvador for his return.

Van Hollen recently traveled to El Salvador to visit with Abrego Garcia and inform him of the political battle to get him back to the U.S.

Bukele took to social media last week to mock the Maryland senator’s meeting, saying the pair were “sipping margaritas.” Van Hollen refuted Bukele’s remarks, saying the drinks were placed on the table by a Bukele aide mid-meeting and the pair never drank from them.

Raskin noted that he was “very proud” of his fellow Maryland lawmaker Van Hollen for taking the trip to visit with Abrego Garcia.

“He restored the humanity to this whole controversy going on,” Raskin said, later adding that Bukele and his government tried to “stage some false margarita scene there” to undermine Van Hollen’s trip.
