In 2021, I lost my mother, and if she were here today, she would likely mention that the last Democratic candidate she supported was John F. Kennedy. The Democratic Party of today seems worlds apart from the era of JFK, who famously urged in his inaugural speech, “Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.” Despite denials from Democrats, a recent poll suggests that our long-held views about the party might hold some truth.
The survey conducted by Elon University in partnership with YouGov America, titled the 250 National Survey, reached out to 1,000 American adults between April 30 and May 4. The findings, unsurprising to many Republicans and conservatives, revealed that 55% of Democrats expressed a preference for living in a different country over the United States today. Meanwhile, 38% of Independents and just 10% of Republicans echoed this sentiment.

The Elon University/YouGov America 250 National Survey polled 1,000 U.S. adults between April 30 and May 4. What they found will no doubt make most Republicans and conservatives yawn because they already knew it. Of those polled, 55 percent of Democrats answered “yes” to the question “Is there any other country on Earth you would rather live in than the United States today?” Rounding out the numbers, 38 percent of Independents said yes, and 10 percent of Republicans.
