Recently unveiled text messages have shed light on the unsettling relationship between a married high school teacher and a teenage student, revealing its troubling extent.
McKenna Kindred, who was 25 at the time, avoided imprisonment after engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student in November 2022. The relationship reportedly began with months of online flirting.
These incriminating messages were discovered after a friend, who remains anonymous, reportedly accessed one of the student’s Instagram accounts and found the exchanges between Kindred and the teenager.
According to texts published by the Daily Mail, Kindred messaged the teen saying: “I was sad when you had to leave my room… when other girls talk about you in my class I could feel myself getting mad.”
The messages were uncovered after an unidentified friend allegedly accessed one of the boy’s Instagram accounts and discovered the chats between the pair.
Screenshots were taken and reported to a teacher, who later contacted Spokane Valley Police.

Kindred also allegedly referenced near-misses at school, texting the boy: “We almost got caught. I was sad when that student walked in when he did.
“I wanted you to hold me. I really like being touched by you.”
Gossip about the relationship reportedly spread around Central Valley High School, where Kindred taught, according to the Daily Mail.
After her arrest, Kindred’s phone underwent a forensic examination.
Around the time of the alleged encounter, the teen messaged her saying “Mom glad I can satisfy you.”
Prosecutors say Kindred “liked” the message.
He then asked whether she had used a sex toy while thinking about him, to which she replied: “I did.”
When the teen suggested she should have filmed it so he could watch later, Kindred allegedly responded: “Hm next time I need to relearn Snapchat haha.”
Police later interviewed the boy, who said he began following Kindred on Instagram in June 2022 and that they exchanged messages and explicit images.
He told investigators he arrived at her home between 6.30pm and 7pm, watched a movie, kissed her, then had sex on the couch before moving to her bedroom, where they continued until around 10pm.
He said he left the house at about 11.30pm after showering and “hanging out.”
Authorities believe the pair had sex only once.
The boy’s mother, Ashley Beckley, later provided investigators with further evidence, telling police she had seen an explicit video her son sent Kindred and photos she allegedly sent him of her breasts.
Beckley also said she had seen a message in which Kindred talked about using a sex toy on herself.
Under Washington law, the age of consent is 16, but authority figures can still be charged with sexually abusing minors under 18 who are in their care.
Kindred was arrested in December 2022 and later admitted first-degree sexual misconduct.
In March 2024, she pleaded guilty to amended charges of second-degree sexual misconduct with a minor and communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
She was sentenced in Spokane County Superior Court to 24 months’ probation, ordered to pay $700 in fines and fees, and must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Breaking down in court, Kindred told the judge: “I am truly sorry for my actions. I know that this past year has been enormously stressful for all involved.
“As a result of my actions I’ve lost my career, valuable friendships, freedoms and have let down countless people who placed their trust in me.
“My mental health has also been severely affected by this event. I am deeply ashamed of the pain I have caused.”
Kindred is said to still be married to her husband, who reportedly stood by her.
Property records show the couple moved from Washington to Idaho, where they jointly bought a home near Boise for nearly $500,000 in June 2024 – just months after her sentencing.
Kindred has since voluntarily surrendered her teaching license following a probe by Idaho’s Professional Standards Commission, effectively ending her career in education.
It remains unclear whether she is currently employed.
Court records show she completed the requirements of her sentence and was formally discharged in May 2025.
