TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

Red-Hot at RedState

She looked like she was going to launch into space. Exactly who would be attracted by that?

As Iranian leaders are fleeing the country and leaving their people to suffer, pray that the Iranian people can install a new set of leaders who are not bloodthirsty power mongers.

No one appears to have recognized him. That’s not her problem; it’s his problem that he’s been so unremarkable as a senator that no one even knows what he looks like.

Trending Across Townhall Media

It’s great to see the Trump administration and the Department of Justice taking this proactive step to eradicate the semi-auto and magazine ban in Illinois.

Just how reliable is this report from Israel Hayom? It’s certainly possible; if the regime falls, Russia loses a key supplier of the drones that Putin’s using to erode Ukrainian fighting capacity, and that source will not be easily replaced.

Carlson’s enemies are all “warmongers,” and he, of course, is a “peacemaker.” (So brave and noble.) He just so happens to be a “peacemaker” who strongly objects to the dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear WMD program(!). He also seems oddly beholden to Russian foreign policy.

This man and this story is tragic and partially unbelievable.

The more we learn, the more questions we have.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

As it is Monday and the House is not in session this week, there aren’t many meetings or hearings scheduled on the Hill today. There’s a closed Senate Intelligence (Select) Committee meeting at 4:00 p.m. Eastern. Tuesday and Wednesday have a few more hearings set, and then the Senate critters are off Thursday and Friday for the Juneteenth holiday.

Per Punchbowl:

Senate Republicans will gather for a conference meeting in the Capitol after the 5:30 p.m. fly-in vote. Senate Finance Committee Chair Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) will give a presentation on the panel’s text.

White House What’s Up

Following a busy weekend, President Donald Trump has a busy Monday. He’s in Kananaskis, Canada, for the G7 Summit. He starts the morning meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. After that, he’ll attend the official welcome, followed by three separate sessions, then a group photo, then a fourth session, capped off in the evening by a “cultural event.”

Full Court Press…

The Supreme Court will hand down decisions on Wednesday this week (since Thursday is a holiday). There will, no doubt, be notable rulings from other courts this week, as well. For instance, the 9th Circuit will hold oral argument in Newsom v. Trump (regarding the federalization of the National Guard) on Tuesday. Look for a fairly quick ruling after that on the administration’s motion to stay pending appeal.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

As noted above, the Senate is in session and holding several hearings this week. Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee will hold one “to examine the Biden presidency and the Constitution.”

MORNING MUSING

Was it really only 10 years ago? That fateful escalator ride that changed the course of history? Feels like a lifetime — and a half — since then. I wonder if there is a soul who watched it then who’d have believed you if you told them of all that has transpired since? The past decade has seen improbability stacked on improbability, with conventional wisdom long since chucked out the window.

I’ve never really been a Deadhead, but all I can think this morning is: What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been — and we aren’t even “there” yet.

LIGHTER FARE

Even insurance salesmen need refreshments…
