Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Birth Name Claims Resurface Amid Fraud Probe

A Justice Department court filing has brought fresh attention to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s name and personal history.

The Minnesota Democrat was listed in the document as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” according to a report published by Fox News on Wednesday.

The wording has reignited long-running claims involving Omar’s first marriage and the circumstances surrounding her immigration history.

The filing surfaced as US Attorney Jeanine Pirro sought to keep sealed a search warrant connected to a search of Omar’s Washington, DC, residence.

On Wednesday, Pirro asked a federal judge to block public access to the warrant after multiple news organizations petitioned for its release.

Prosecutors said the warrant should remain confidential because federal agents had not completed their work under it.

The document offers no explanation for the use of the name and does not accuse Omar of committing a crime.

Separately, Fox News reported, citing individuals familiar with the investigation, that authorities believe “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi” is Omar’s legal name.

The dispute follows a federal search of Omar’s home on October 12. The raid was part of an ongoing investigation into possible fraud involving immigration documents connected to her family.

During an interview with MS NOW’s Chris Hayes on Wednesday, Omar said agents removed two of her phones, her youngest daughter’s phone and notebooks belonging to Mynett.

She said investigators also took a vintage camera once owned by Mynett’s Navy-serving uncle, along with a children’s book intended to help readers learn Somali that had been given to her husband.

According to Omar, the search lasted between four and five hours, with agents taking 17 items from the property.

She said the agents “mostly conducted themselves in a decent way” and credited them with returning the home’s belongings to their original places.

The name included in the filing has also renewed interest in Omar’s 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

Conservative opponents have claimed that Elmi was Omar’s brother and that the marriage was intended to help him secure US immigration status.

Omar has consistently rejected those accusations, and nothing in the latest court filing confirms them.

The New York Post reported on October 19, citing sources familiar with the investigation, that authorities are examining whether Omar’s 2009 marriage to Elmi was fraudulent and whether the pair were related as siblings.

The DNA evidence is among several lines of inquiry being pursued by investigators, alongside whistleblower accounts and government records.

No DNA results have been made public, and the allegations have not been proven in court.

Omar became a US citizen in 2000 as a teenager through her father’s naturalization.

Investigators are reportedly examining questions about information contained in immigration documents relating to Omar and her family.

Omar has accused President Trump’s administration of politically targeting her, arguing that the investigation is an attempt to intimidate one of his most vocal critics.

Her lawyers have challenged the search and demanded the return of seized property, alleging that authorities exceeded the limits of the warrant.

The Justice Department has disputed claims that officials violated court orders.

The controversy has also unfolded amid scrutiny of Omar’s financial disclosures and her household’s reported assets.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Omar’s office for comment.
