RUSSELL Brand has been dropped by a US college where he was to make a speech on “censorship”.

Last week Brand was charged with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one could of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault.

The actor and comedian was to appear as a guest speaker at New College of Florida to speak on social and political issues, as part of their Socratic Stage series.

And it had been revealed that Brand would be speaking at the event titled: “Thinking without Permission: A Conversation with Russell Brand on Free Speech, Censorship, and Cultural Power.”

But the body has now postponed his planned appearance on Saturday.

After the charges were made, New College said Brand would still appear as scheduled.

But then in an email to students and staff, the school’s administration said Brand’s appearance would be rescheduled.

The email says the decision to rescheduled had nothing to do with the rape charges against Brand.

“This decision follows changes in event logistics, including the unavailability of the previously planned venue, the Sarasota Opera House,” the email said.

 “As a result, the event had been moved to a smaller on-campus theater with no tickets available for general access.

“In conversation with Russell Brand’s team, all parties have mutually agreed to shift the event to a future date that allows for broader access and public engagement.”

Police charged Brand with rape and sexual assault following an 18-month investigation sparked when four women alleged they had been assaulted by the controversial comedian.

Detectives began investigating after receiving a number of allegations in September 2023.

The alleged offences involve four women and took place between 1999 and 2005 — one in Bournemouth and the other three in the Westminster area of central London.

Brand denied engaging in “non-consensual” sexual activity.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said: “The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers.

“The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police.”

In a video posted on X on Friday, Brand denied the allegations made against him.

He said: “I’ve always told you guys, when I was young and single, before I had my wife and family, I was a fool man.

“I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile.

“But I never was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity – I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”

In recent years, the comedian, who was briefly married to popstar Katy Perry, has largely disappeared from mainstream media.

But Brand has built up a large following online with videos mixing wellness and conspiracy theories.

He recently said he had moved to America.
