Mark Your Calendar: 3 of Country's Worst Governors to Face Grilling Over Disaster Sanctuary Policies

We probably won’t get many satisfying answers from the extremist leftists who support so-called “sanctuary city” policies, but at least we’ll be getting a chance to watch New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Chicago Gov. JB Pritzker squirm under direct questioning from House Republicans.

Set your calendar for the second week in June:

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Walz will testify before the House Oversight Committee on June 12, Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., announced Tuesday.

“The Trump Administration is taking decisive action to deport criminal illegal aliens from our nation but reckless sanctuary states like Illinois, Minnesota, and New York are actively seeking to obstruct federal immigration enforcement,” Comer said in a statement. “The governors of these states must explain why they are prioritizing the protection of criminal illegal aliens over the safety of U.S. citizens, and they must be held accountable.”

Many will say, “Who cares? We don’t want hearings, we want consequences.”

These aren’t the Biden years, though, where Republicans were reduced to strongly worded letters. The GOP now has a party leader in President Donald Trump who has shown that he’s not afraid to pull massive sums in federal funding when necessary, and he’s got Attorney General Pam Bondi in his corner, along with Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon, who have quickly proven they will enforce the laws.

Trump last week signed an executive order that, in part, directed the Office of Management and Budget to “identify appropriate Federal funds to sanctuary jurisdictions, including grants and contracts, for suspension or termination, as appropriate.”

“No more Sanctuary Cities! They protect the Criminals, not the Victims. They are disgracing our Country, and are being mocked all over the World. Working on papers to withhold all Federal Funding for any City or State that allows these Death Traps to exist!!!” Trump said in the release.

Meanwhile, it’s unlikely that either Pritzker or Walz will come across well in what is sure to be intense questioning because they are both odious creatures and have no good answers as to why they’ve willingly allowed their states to decline. Both have been rumored to have national political aspirations, and perhaps when the American people see them sputtering and spinning and sweating in the hot seats of Congress, those dreams can be nipped in the bud.

I’m looking forward to it. My only regret: California’s Gavin Newsom won’t be there to join in on the fun.
