A woke school superintendent earning more than $424,000 per year is now using taxpayer funds to hire a personal bodyguard, it has emerged.

Michelle Reid took over as head of the Fairfax County, Virginia school district in July 2022 and has faced a slew of controversies in her three years of leadership.

She has come under fire for allegedly covering up a football recruitment scandal, withholding National Merit awards from students, and defying Title IX protections in girls sports, Fox News reports.

The school board opted to renew her four-year contract last November and raised her salary $380,000 by nearly 12 percent. She was also awarded a $12,000 annual car allowance.

But Reid is being met with skepticism again as she seeks to hire an Executive Protection Agent who will be tasked with ‘ensuring the personal safety, security and operational continuity of the division superintendent’.

The role, listed on online recruitment platform BrassRing, would earn an annual wage of between $84,552 to $143,880, according to the district’s pay scale.

Qualified applicants will have ‘experience in threat assessment and protective intelligence’ and ‘demonstrate a high level of discretion and maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the role’.

The starting salary of a new teacher in Fairfax County, the 12th-largest school district in the country, is only $58,000 – significantly less than the proposed wage for Reid’s personal security officer.

Reid is looking for a bodyguard who will ‘focus on conducting investigations and executive protection’ and ‘completion of executive protection training’, the job description states.

The ideal candidate will also be able to ‘remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure, especially in sensitive or high-risk situations’.

The job demands ‘exceptional flexibility’, with the posting highlighting how the security officer will have an ‘unpredictable’ schedule that is ‘driven by the superintendent’s daily activities and security needs’.

Reid’s Executive Protection Agent must have ‘knowledge of protective intelligence, behavioral analysis, and threat mitigation strategies’ and be skilled in ‘surveillance detection, open-source intelligence tools, and incident reporting’.

The school district says the position is standard for superintendents, though experts have disputed that claim.

‘Fairfax County Public Schools has long provided a security presence for the superintendent at public‑facing events, as part of the broader safety framework implemented by the Office of Safety and Security’, district spokesperson Steven Brasley told Fox.

But the president of the National School Safety and Security Services, based in Ohio, told the news outlet a ‘personal bodyguard for the superintendent’ is ‘not a normal or customary position’.

Brasley claims protection for Reid is just one ‘component’ of the role, which he says is designed to help in ‘identifying, assessing and mitigating risks of targeted violence against students, staff and schools’.

However, he job description does not make any mention of ‘students, staff and schools’.

Brasley says the position ‘participates in larger security and investigative initiatives across the district, such as the ongoing implementation of a new emergency response system and weapons screening’.

He also said the role will ‘formalize responsibility for executive protection’ and support a ‘wider array of responsibilities’ within the security and safety office.
