Fox News anchor Sean Hannity has recently opened up about his struggles with two health issues, after viewers noted his unusually “puffy” appearance. The 64-year-old conservative figurehead was met with concern earlier in the week as he looked noticeably swollen during broadcasts. Responding to the public outcry, Hannity shared in an online statement that he is suffering from a “painful” pinched nerve in his neck. He explained that the medication prescribed for this issue, prednisone, has resulted in laryngitis and puffiness. “Thanks to everyone who has checked in,” Hannity said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“I’ve already spoken about this a few times on my radio show,” Hannity remarked. “During training, I developed a painful pinched nerve in my neck.” He further elaborated that his doctor prescribed prednisone to alleviate inflammation. While the medication is effective, it has also caused temporary laryngitis and facial puffiness, which he acknowledged as “normal for this medication.” He assured, “I’m recovering well, still training, but it seems a few weeks on prednisone have prompted more online chatter than three decades of successful ratings.” He expressed gratitude for the concern and support, even acknowledging well wishes from the “left-wing media.”
Laryngitis and pinched nerves explained
Hannity continued, “Sorry to disappoint, but a pinched nerve, a raspy voice, and a puffy face aren’t sidelining me anytime soon.” Laryngitis involves inflammation of the larynx, or voice box, typically caused by overuse, irritation, or infection. A pinched nerve occurs when excessive pressure from surrounding tissues—like bones, cartilage, muscles, or tendons—compresses a nerve, leading to pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness.

Earlier, social media was abuzz with questions about Hannity’s altered appearance. One user on X inquired, “What happened to his face?” Another commented, “Hannity isn’t looking well. Is he sick?” A third quipped, “Why is he so puffy? Did he get stung by an entire beehive?” On his radio show, Hannity previously mentioned that his doctor attributed his symptoms to a severe sinus infection, which led to laryngitis. He recounted, “I didn’t want to take the medicine prednisone, and the doctor reassured me I wouldn’t harm my vocal cords by riding it out.”
