A SHAMELESS driver who killed an eight-year-old and left his dad in a coma smirks from his mugshot as he faces jail over the horror smash.

Nicholas Hopkins, 20, ploughed into Mustafa Ahmed, his 11-year-old brother Ahmed and dad Mohamed Mao, 49, as they crossed the road.

Mustafa was launched several yards after being catapulted into the air and was later declared dead at the scene in Plumstead, South East London.

Tragically, his dad forgot about the youngster when he woke up from a two-month coma after suffering amnesia.

Hopkins has now pleaded guilty to a string of offences, including causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

The motorcyclist also admitted causing death by driving without a licence, causing death while uninsured and possession of Class B drugs.

The family had been walking to the Greenwich Islamic Centre in February when the Yamaha Thundercat motorbike slammed into them.

Mohamed was airlifted to hospital with a head injury and shattered hip, while Ahmed suffered a punctured liver and neck lacerations.

The dad said previously: “When I woke up, I didn’t remember anything, I didn’t know my wife, I didn’t know anybody.

“I didn’t know the reason I was there.”

Mohamed said when his memories eventually came back, he was told his son had passed away in the crash.

The dad said he “felt guilty” as he had taken Mustafa from their home on the day of the crash.

He is still recovering from his injuries and has been left unable to work while he waits for a hip replacement.

Hopkins was remanded into custody ahead of sentencing on January 26.

Detective Sergeant Sam Miles, from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mustafa’s family – who continue to struggle with the events of that day – as well as the officers and paramedics who were first on scene.

“This is truly a tragic case, caused by the defendants reckless and dangerous driving.

“Mustafa was only eight years old, and had the rest of his life ahead of him.”
