Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) argued that since the election, President Trump has had Democrats “on their heels.”

Slotkin joined NBC News’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, where she was asked by host Kristen Welker about if the Democratic Party has a leader to help navigate the Trump administration.

“Look, I mean, people know me, I’m pretty straightforward. I don’t think it’s a secret that Democrats have been on their heels since Trump won the election, right?” Slotkin said. “I don’t think that’s … something hidden.”

Slotkin, who recently delivered the rebuttal to President Trump’s joint address to Congress, highlighted how Trump has been successful at “flooding the zone” and coming out with new acts and orders each day since he’s been in office.

Like many other Democratic lawmakers and strategists, Slotkin called for a new group of leaders to step forward. The Michigan senator, however, has emerged as a bright spot for Democrats after she delivered a well-rounded speech after Trump’s chaotic speech.

“I think you can’t get better until you admit you have a problem. I think some of the new voices in the party have been agitating about, right? New senators, new representatives, new folks who are like ‘hey, we need to do more, and we need to be showing that we’re actually having a plan to stand up on really important moments of inflection,’” Slotkin said.

“So that’s what I’m trying to do from within,” she added.
