Footage shows the boat speeding across the Havasu Lake, Arizona, in front of other vessels and their owners.

Onlookers were also captured sat in camping chairs on land taking videos of the zippy boat.

But amazement soon spirals into panic as the bow of the boat lifts to the sky.

Videos show the speedboat initially doing a somersault in the air before wind carries it dozens of metres further.

It then smashes into the lake as horrified onlookers are heard fearfully exclaiming.

One witness told Fox News: “My heart dropped when I saw that boat get airborne.

“It’s never something you want to look at when you’re out there having fun as a driver for sure”.

The crew onboard the speedboat, known to the broadcaster as John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, are part of Freedom One Racing.

The team was looking to make history with their 10,000 horsepower skater speedboat.

They were attempting to set a record at the lake’s Desert Storm Shootout.

Publisher for Speedboat Magazine Ray Lee also revealed to Fox News that the vessel was travelling at an inconceivable speed of 200.1mph.

He said: “It’s a 388 skater and it’s estimated at about 10,000 horsepower.

“So they came to Lake Havasu earlier in the week intending to break the record here for the desert storm shootout.

“That was their first pass of the day and when they went over, the radar picked them up at 200.1 mph.”

The crew were lucky able to walk away from the horror incident with minor injuries.

On Lake Havasu, there have been a whopping 11 deaths since 1963.

Four personal watercraft deaths have been recorded, as well as eight speedboat deaths.

The latest boat flipping has served a grave reminder of the deadliest crash seen on the lake, the 2018 “Lickity Split”.

The tragic boating incident seven years ago resulted in the deaths of two men, Brad Kloepfer and Paul Selberg, after their vessel named Lickity Split crashed at speeds exceeding 150mph.
