Syabira Yusoff was crowned the winner of the 2022 series Great British Bake Off on Tuesday night.

The baker, 32, beat off stiff competition from Abdul Rehman Sharif, 29, and Sandro Farmhouse, 30, in what proved to be a very tricky final for the trio – particularly the technical challenge.

After host Matt Lucus called her name, a delighted Syabira told how her win was the ‘biggest achievement in my life.’

Praising Syabira after her win, judge Paul Hollywood said: ‘Some of the flavours we have never had in the tent before and are unlikely to have again, she is an incredible baker.’

While Prue Leith shared: ‘She is creative and she is careful, she practises like anything, and she is imaginative, she just has the lot. She is a very skillful baker.’

Meanwhile, Noel told the cardiovascular research associate that he’d ‘never seen a baker like you.’

Speaking after her win, Syabira remarked: ‘I can’t believe it, honestly, it hasn’t sunk in yet. All the hard work, all the trial and error, it has all been worth it.’

She also remarked that she has grown in confidence and learned to trust her instincts, before stating that she’s glad she’s victorious as a woman hasn’t won in a while.

She added: ‘I believe there is only one way to know if you can do it, just do it! I will also try to never be too shy again and the knowledge that hard work always pays off.’

Watching the result, fans took to Twitter to share how pleased they were over Syabira’s win.

‘Syabira winning bake off is more exciting than submitting my ucas’ commented one person.

With another adding: ‘A very well deserved win #Syabira. She aced it every week. As always its been a pleasure watching #BakeOff. Inspiring me to get my bake on. I will. Again, congratulations to 2022 winner Syabira in all her endeavours.’

The final proved to be very tricky for three bakers as they faced they struggled in all three rounds, particularly the technical challenge.

After being tasked to create a summer pudding bombe, the bakers found themselves baffled by the recipe, with two of them presenting collapsed mounds of bread, mousse, and unset jelly.

Abdul just about edged the win, but Paul urged the others not to clap as he didn’t feel any of them did their best.

The showstopper saw the trio tasked with creating an edible sculpture, with Syabira creating a huge orangutan holding up his rainforest home.

Her ambitious creation consisted of layers of tarragon shortbread and a Genoese sponge which was flavoured with black pepper and sandwiched with blackberry jam.

Paul said of her bake: ‘The orangutang is clever. I think you could have done a little bit more work on the face… It’s not the neatest thing I’ve seen but it tastes fantastic, nevertheless.’

While Prue declared it ‘a rather strange construction.’

It comes after Great British Bake Off fans were left ‘gutted’ during the grand final as host Noel Fielding was missing from the start of episode.

At the start of the show, his co-host Matt Lucas announced that Noel wouldn’t be featuring on the first day of the final as he was ill.

But reacting to the news, viewers shared that they were impressed with his absence, with one even declaring: ‘Why am I even watching this??’

Taking to Twitter, one person remarked: ‘Omg – where’s Noel… He makes the show’.

While another shared: ‘Okay bake off has been bad enough this year without Noel now not presenting the final.’

‘Gutted that Noel is missing the final!’ declared a third watcher.

Noel’s absence comes after Syabira last week asked him to ‘stay away’ last week, with some fans noting that the comedian may have taken her requested literally.

However, later in the episode, Noel later returned for the showstopper challenges, which were filmed the next day.

The star joined Matt and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith for a debrief about the previous day, where they told him about the less-than-impressive technical bakes.

Noel was then on hand to present the final round of the competition with Matt, with the bakers tasked with creating an elaborate edible sculpture.

Sandro Farmhouse, 30, Syabira Yusoff, 32, and Abdul Rehman Sharif, 29, are all battling it out to become the 2022 Great British Bake Off champion.
