His family announced on Tuesday that Swaggart “finished his earthly race” after being hospitalized last month.

Swaggart had been unconscious in a hospital after he went into cardiac arrest at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Father’s Day.

He faced an uphill battle as he lost consciousness during the medical incident two weeks ago, his son Donnie said.

“Without a miracle, his time is short,” Donnie told ABC affiliate WBRZ-TV at the time.

Megan Kelly, the spokesperson for Swaggart Family Ministries, said at the time that Swaggart was quickly transported to the hospital on that Sunday morning.

“Ambulances were able to respond very quickly. They gave him CPR, they took turns doing it, and you can imagine how emotional that was and how stressful that was in that moment,” Kelly said.

Swaggart’s death was announced in a statement shared to social media on Tuesday morning.

“Today, our hearts are heavy as we share that Brother Swaggart has finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ,” the statement shared on Swaggart’s official Facebook page said.

“Today was the day he has sung about for decades.

“He met his beloved Savior and entered the portals of glory. At the same time, we rejoice knowing that we will see him again one day.”

The televangelist died the day after he was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame on Monday.

‘BITTERSWEET’ HONOR

He was honored for decades of contributions to gospel music and Christian ministry.

Swaggart had learned about the induction on his birthday in March, Kelly said.

Kelly said the induction was “bittersweet.”

“His life and his legacy have touched so many, and we’re just honored to be a part of this,” Kelly told CBS affiliate WAFB.

Statement on Jimmy Swaggart’s death

Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart died at age 90 on Tuesday. His death was announced in the following statement:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8

Today, our hearts are heavy as we share that Brother Swaggart has finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ. Today was the day he has sung about for decades. He met his beloved Savior and entered the portals of glory. At the same time, we rejoice knowing that we will see him again one day.

For over seven decades, Brother Swaggart poured out his life preaching the gospel, singing songs of the faith, and pointing millions to the saving power of Jesus Christ and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. His voice echoed through nations, his music softened hearts, and his message never changed: Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

He was not just a preacher—he was a worshiper, a warrior, and a witness to the grace and mercy of God. He was a man whose faith was steadfast and always entered whatever door the Lord opened. And the Lord honored that faith.

Please continue to lift up Sister Frances, Donnie, Debbie, Gabriel, Jill, Jennifer, Clif, Matt, Joanna, Sam, Ryder, Abby, Lola, Harper, Navy, Harrison, Caroline and Mackenzie in your prayers.

The family would like to thank the staff, doctors and nurses at Baton Rouge General Medical Center for their incredible support and care given during this time.

She said the family, who was preparing for his death, was grateful to celebrate one last major accomplishment for the famous pastor.

Donnie is expected to accept the Hall of Fame honor on his behalf in a ceremony scheduled for September.

Swaggart is one of the world’s best-known televangelists.

He started preaching on the radio in the 1960s.

His television ministry began in 1975 and went on to be broadcast internationally to millions of households.

Following a prostitution sex scandal, Swaggart was defrocked by the Assemblies of God in 1988 but continued to preach.

Swaggart founded Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College in Baton Rouge.

He is survived by his wife, Frances, and Donnie, who is also a minister.
