A COP was forced to dive out of the way of gunfire coming from UNLV shooting suspect Anthony Polito, CCTV footage shows.
On Wednesday, December 6, Polito allegedly opened fire on members of faculty at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
The attack left three dead along with the semi-retired professor who was shot by police.
Polito was denied a job at the university shortly before his attack.
Shocking surveillance footage from the attack has been shared on social media by a reporter for NBC affiliate KSNV News 3.
Reporter Brett Forrest shared an 18-second clip on X, formerly Twitter showing a “hero” cop diving behind a police vehicle to avoid being shot.
“Security video of the UNLV campus police engaging with the school shooter,” Forrest wrote in the caption.
“The first officer was on scene within 78 seconds of the initial call according to a briefing today.”
In the bottom right-hand corner of the video, Polito can be seen wearing a long black coat as the campus police officer approaches him.
According to Forrest, police approached Polito thinking he was a professor on campus, not the shooter.
Polito can then be seen pulling out his weapon and the quick-thinking cop puts his hand to his holster and runs behind a vehicle before rolling on the ground to get further away.
Polito then chases the officer behind another cop car where the officer appears to hit him with a shot in the lower part of his body making him fall to the ground.

“What a close call for the cop,” one X user commented below the video clip.
“That officer is a hero. Unbelievable courage,” another added.
Others claimed that he “should get a medal of valor” while others praised the police and the fact that the cop survived the shootout.
Following the attack, Las Vegas Metro Sheriff Kevin McMahill said: “What happened today is a heinous, unforgivable crime… If it hadn’t been for the heroic actions of one of those police officers who responded, there could have been countless additional lives taken.”
Meanwhile, UNLV president Keith Whitfield called the shooting an “unfathomable event” in a statement addressing the incident.
“We will forever remember and honor those we have lost and who were injured,” he said.
“I’m grieving for the victims of today’s senseless shooting, and my heart breaks for the many students, faculty, staff, parents, loved ones and community members who suffered through hours of painful uncertainty while officers ensured that our campus was safe and secure again.”
The coroner’s office has officially named all three victims of the shooting who died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Cha Jan Chang, a 64-year-old professor known as “Jerry,” and 39-year-old associate professor Patricia Navarro Velez were the first two victims to be named.
Naoko Takemaru, 69, an associate professor of Japanese Studies at UNLV was named on Friday.
A fourth victim is said to be in a “stable condition at Sunrise Hospital, according to Las Vegas police.
An investigation into Polito continues as police found a list of targets and a “last will” while searching the suspect’s home on Wednesday night just hours after the shooting.
The following day it emerged that the suspect had sent 22 letters containing an unknown white powder substance which was later found to be harmless.
However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department warned anyone who receives a letter with no return address should be cautious and contact law enforcement.
