A California mother who went viral after she exploded at Gavin Newsom for his bumbling response to the Los Angeles fires said she was left bewildered by his response to her.

Rachel Darvish told Fox News she was furious with the California Governor after he was left scrambling for a response when she chased him down.

Newsom claimed to be trying to reach President Biden on the phone at the time but said he couldn’t get cell service, which Darvish argued was indicative of his mismanagement of the crisis.

‘There was no cellphone reception in certain areas, but that’s a big problem in and of itself,’ she told host Jesse Watters.  ‘Why doesn’t he have a satellite truck?’

‘The fact that he couldn’t get cell reception was really frustrating,’ she added.

Darvish went on to call on Newsom to step up in the time of crisis, as he and other Democrat leaders in California including LA Mayor karen bass come under scrutiny for their response.

‘Governor, can you just clean this up and fix it and move on at least,’ she continued. ‘But will that happen? I don’t know.’

Her concerns echo those of many Los Angelinos who have questioned the response to the wildfires which have so far claimed at least 10 lives and upwards of 10,000 buildings.

Criticism of Newsom’s handling of the crisis has fallen on his decision to slash California’s funding for wildfire and forest resilience by $101 million less than a year before the Los Angeles fires.

Donald Trump led calls for Newsom to resign, and pointed to his focus on ‘delta smelt’, a three-inch fish native to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta in California.

On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump argues that Governor Gavin Newsom’s smelt conservation efforts have stopped water from being delivered to farmers and major cities.

The water system used by the state to fight the wildfires – that have so far burned over 10,000 buildings and killed at least 10 people – struggled and in some places failed under the strain.

When asked about her thoughts on Newsom’s handling of the crisis, Darvish poked fun at the policy and said she has ‘no regard for smelt.’

‘Actually, I love sushi, but I have no regard for smelt,’ she continued. ‘But apparently the governor does.

‘But that leads to what he cares about… why do you care?’

Darvish also seemed to take issue with DEI policies within the Los Angeles fire department and emergency services, adding in her message to Newsom: ‘Why do you care who it is? Let’s pick the good people.’

‘Governor, can you just clean this up and fix it and move on at least.

‘These guys are entrenched in what they do… It’s time for something new. It doesn’t have to be an R (Republican), it doesn’t have to be a D (Democrat), why can’t it be someone that knows what they’re doing?’

Watters added: ‘If you take a mom and put them in the governor’s mansion, they’d probably do a better job than Gavin Newsom.’

Darvish went on to echo the concerns she raised to Newsom’s face when she confronted him earlier this week, saying she didn’t see a single fire truck or firefighter as she was fleeing the flames.

‘On my way down (while evacuating), I didn’t see a single fire truck coming to help me,’ she said.

‘It’s not their fault Jesse, it comes from the top… the buck stops with these guys.’
