Director Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Sunday, as reported by local news outlet KTLA.
According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call on Sunday afternoon and promptly responded to the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue. Upon arrival, the emergency responders discovered the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman inside the residence.
In addition to his acclaimed work as a director, Reiner was known for his active involvement in political issues. Notably, during a segment on MS NOW in October, he voiced concerns, suggesting that the United States was on a path toward autocracy under the leadership of President Trump.
Director Rob Reiner and his spouse on Sunday were discovered to be deceased at their home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood, according to local outlet KTLA.
KTLA reported that Sunday afternoon local time, Los Angeles Fire Department medical personnel got a call and made their way to the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue. The outlet reported that five officials said units that showed up at the scene discovered a man aged about 78 as well as a woman aged about 68 deceased at the home.
Beyond his directing career, Reiner has a history of political activism. During an appearance on MS NOW in October, he warned that the U.S. was headed into autocracy under President Trump.
“We have a year before this country becomes a full-on autocracy completely and democracy completely leaves us,” Reiner said. “We have to make the public absolutely aware that their democracy is being taken from them, and we have to do everything we can to make people understand that … if they lose that democracy, all of these [First Amendment rights] will be taken away from them.”
Reiner also reportedly went after former second gentleman Doug Emhoff in 2024 during a debate watch party, stating that the U.S. was going to “lose our f—ing democracy due to former President Biden’s rough performance. That performance eventually led to Biden’s exit from the 2024 presidential race and Emhoff’s wife, former Vice President Kamala Harris, becoming her party’s presidential nominee that year.
