Renowned Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were discovered dead in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Sunday. Authorities report that both had injuries consistent with stab wounds.
Reiner, who initially gained fame playing the character ‘Meathead’ on the iconic 1970s sitcom “All in the Family,” alongside Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton, later achieved great success as a director. His illustrious career began with the 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” and included beloved films such as “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men.”
Despite his well-known liberal political stance, Reiner’s work was widely appreciated. Just the night before his passing, I watched the sequel to “Spinal Tap” and noted his apparent good health and enduring comedic talent.
Currently, details surrounding this tragic incident are limited. Here’s what has been reported so far:
While we have previously critiqued Reiner for his political views, this is neither the time nor the place to revisit those discussions.

We have strongly criticized Reiner on his leftist political views in the past, but I don’t feel that it’s the time or place to do so now.
My Top 3 Favorite Movies Are:
1. It’s a Wonderful Life
2. The Princess Bride
3. When Harry Met SallyTo think that Reiner – whatever differences I may have had with him politically – is suddenly gone and in this way…well, it simply does not compute. https://t.co/bFD16PQaJs

Instead, we might remember that despite those views, he made some of the greatest entertainment in Hollywood over recent decades, with many people able to quote The Princess Bride at will.
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
That line alone has become legendary, along with many others.
“My name is Inigo Montoya. You k*lled my father. Prepare to die.”
One of cinema’s most satisfying payoffs in The Princess Bride (1987). Mandy Patinkin said he poured his real grief for his father into the moment, which is why it lands so powerfully.

When Harry Met Sally, meanwhile, is a masterpiece in depicting the complications of modern relationships. The film is responsible, thanks to Reiner and actress Meg Ryan, for bringing one of the most famous climactic scenes of all time (with Billy Crystal in a diner) to life.
A Few Good Men featured acting gems by Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson; the line “You can’t handle the truth!” resonates to this day.
As of this writing, we simply don’t know who might have inflicted the reported stab wounds on the Reiners. Was it a relative or a crazed intruder or something else entirely? (There is some reporting that his son was extremely troubled and could be the culprit, but that has not been confirmed.) RedState will bring you those revelations when they occur, but in the meantime, whatever Rob Reiner thought about politics, he certainly didn’t deserve this fate. May he and his wife rest in peace.
