Nassau County, located on Long Island, New York, is a bustling suburban area situated just east of New York City, often serving as a commuter hub for those working in the metropolis. Recently, the community has been rocked by tragedy, as two residents have been murdered, allegedly at the hands of an undocumented immigrant now facing charges in both cases.
A post on the social media platform X highlights the incident, directing attention to the coverage by local media. An ABC affiliate, Eyewitness News, has provided an in-depth report on the unfolding situation.
Emotions are running high within the community, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the suspect. Identified as Rivera, the individual in question reportedly entered the U.S. illegally a decade ago and remained despite his undocumented status. Now, he is accused of committing these heinous acts.
The case has sparked debate over immigration policies, with critics emphasizing that Rivera should not have been in the country to begin with, spotlighting the broader issues of illegal immigration and public safety.

The X post reads:
An illegal alien brutally m*rdered two women — a coworker and his roommate — in separate attacks on Long Island.
Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera allegedly st*bbed a 42-year-old female coworker to death as she was taking out the garbage behind a Wendy’s in Island Park, Nassau County, just after midnight Friday.
Several hours later, he allegedly killed a 32-year-old woman on Mineola Avenue in Valley Stream.
Rivera entered the U.S. illegally in 2016 allegedly at age 12.
After the attacks, he calmly told officers, “I’ve killed someone.”
A local news outlet, ABC affiliate Eyewitness News, has more details.
Police say he first killed a 32-year-old woman at the Valley Stream home they shared on West Mineola Avenue around 9 p.m. Thursday, then later stabbed and killed a coworker at a Wendy’s restaurant on Austin Boulevard in Island Park.
Nassau County officials on Saturday did not release a motive, instead describing the suspect’s mental state.
“To sum it up in one word, angry,” said Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo, commanding officer of homicide for the Nassau County Police Department.
Both victims were women and were killed by multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso, police said.
Angry doesn’t seem to cover it. And what would Rivera have to be angry about? He entered the United States ten years ago, illegally, and regardless of his status, he was allowed to stay, illegally, and now he stands accused of two murders.
Police responded to Wendy’s a little after midnight on Friday for a report of a person with a knife. Inside, they found a 42-year-old woman, a mother of two, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
While officers were investigating that homicide, police received a call about a man in need of help at a 7-Eleven in Lynbrook.
“The officers responded, and that individual said he had killed somebody that night,” Darienzo said. “A short conversation ensued, and an arrest was made. At that same time, information was received that this individual may be responsible for a second murder.”
Rivera, again, had no business being in the United States in the first place.
