President Trump condemned the Washington shooting that left two young Israeli Embassy staffers dead outside the Capital Jewish Museum on Wednesday evening, saying the suspect’s actions were “based obviously on antisemitism.”

“These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social just after midnight early Thursday.

“Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA,” he continued. “Condolences to the families of the victims. So sad that such things as this can happen! God Bless You ALL!”

The suspect, identified as Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, approached a group of four individuals leaving a museum event shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday and shot and killed the two victims at close range, law enforcement officials said.

The suspect then walked into the museum and was apprehended. After he was in custody, he shouted, “Free, free Palestine,” Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith told reporters following the incident.

Smith said Rodriguez was in custody and that law enforcement officials did not believe there was any ongoing threat to the community.

Yechiel Leiter, Israeli ambassador to the U.S., said at the news conference that the victims were a young couple who were about to get engaged. Yaron Lischinsky had purchased a ring and planned to propose to Sarah Lynn Milgrim in Jerusalem next week, Leiter said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he spoke to Attorney General Pam Bondi after the shooting, and she conveyed to him that Trump “is involved in managing the event, and that the US will bring the murderer to justice,” according to a readout of the call from Netanyahu’s office.

The Israeli leader condemned the killings, saying he was “outraged.”

“We are witness to the terrible cost of the antisemitism and wild incitement against the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said. “Blood libels against Israel have a cost in blood and must be fought to the utmost.”

“My heart grieves for the families of the young beloveds, whose lives were cut short in a moment by an abhorrent antisemitic murderer,” he added.
