President Trump on Wednesday met with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) at the White House, to discuss fire recovery and border security efforts.

The Golden State was recently ravished by wildfires that destroyed Los Angeles homes and challenged local firefighters who combated flames amidst issues obtaining water. Wade Crowfoot, the Secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency who oversees key water and fire policy across the state, accompanied Newsom at the meeting.

Newsom thanked Trump for meeting with him to work on rebuilding the communities affected by the fires.

“As we approach one month since the devastating wildfires across Southern California, we continue to cut red tape to speed up recovery and clean up efforts as well as ensure rebuilding efforts are swift. We’re working across the aisle, as we always have, to ensure survivors have the resources and support they need,” Newsom wrote in a statement.

“Thank you, President Trump, for coming to our communities to see this first hand and meeting with me today to continue our joint efforts to support people impacted.”

Abbott, one of the president’s biggest allies, met with Trump to discuss border security ideas. The governor said he offered to support the new measures from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“We have identified about 4,000 prison beds in the state of Texas that could be used by the Trump administration for holding facilities, for detention facilities for imprisonment of people who have been arrested for committing crimes, who are here illegally, whichever way the Trump administration wants to use it,” Abbott said during a Wednesday evening appearance on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”

“We’re offering up that capability and also let them know about some things that we had done. That is, Texas has built more than 56 miles of border wall,” he added.

Abbott said the state is working on another 18 miles of border wall and has acquired another 100 miles of land for border wall construction, which he is willing to turn over to the U.S. government.
