On Thursday, President Trump expressed his satisfaction with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) decision to step down from Congress at the conclusion of her term, labeling her as an “evil woman.”
“I consider her an evil individual. Her retirement is a positive move, and I believe it benefits the country,” Trump remarked to journalists in the Oval Office when queried about his thoughts on the California Democrat’s choice to conclude her distinguished career spanning decades.
Continuing with his critique, Trump stated, “She was a significant burden for the nation. In my view, she performed poorly, inflicting considerable damage and tarnishing our reputation. I found her tenure to be abysmal.”
Earlier that Thursday, Pelosi, 85, declared that she would not pursue another term in office. Her tenure in Congress began in 1987, and she holds the distinction of being the first and only woman to have served as Speaker of the House.
The relationship between Trump and Pelosi was notably contentious, marked by frequent clashes during Trump’s presidency and campaign. Pelosi often became a symbol of Democratic opposition to Trump in Congress.
Pelosi oversaw the House when it impeached Trump twice, first in 2019 over allegations he withheld weapons from Ukraine as part of a quid pro quo, and again in 2021 after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Pelosi recently called Trump the “worst thing on the face of the Earth.”
Trump in 2023 appeared to make light of the attack on Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, and he regularly mocked her with the nickname “Crazy Nancy.”
