On Monday, the president met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House and announced new measures against the Russian Federation if they continue their bellicose ways.
He plans on upping efforts to get arms to Ukraine, and also vowed severe economic consequences for Russia if they fail to work toward peace:
“We’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days,” Trump said. “Tariffs at about 100% you’d call them secondary tariffs. You know what that means.”
A White House official clarified to CNN that when the president referred to “secondary tariffs,” he meant 100% tariffs on Russia and secondary sanctions on other countries that buy Russian oil.
As for the weapons, in addition to Patriot missile batteries — the top item on Kyiv’s wish list and one Trump said Sunday was vital to Ukraine’s defenses — the US could also sell short-range missiles, Howitzer rounds and medium-range air-to-air missiles to NATO members, which would then be transferred to Ukraine, a person familiar with the deliberations said.

PRESIDENT TRUMP, PEACEKEEPER
Again, our president has taken historic, courageous action to try and bring peace, this time in the war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine. And the manner in which he is pursuing this goal is brilliant — NATO will purchase (or swap out) arms…

And the manner in which he is pursuing this goal is brilliant — NATO will purchase (or swap out) arms produced by our country to provide much needed military equipment to Ukraine. The president has explained that Putin is targeting civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure despite claiming he is willing to negotiate. The president said he felt like he had a deal about four times. But Putin is just delaying.
Clearly, Putin is undeterred in his ambition to conquer Ukraine at any cost on his way to expanding his imperialist ambitions, which Putin has not been shy about declaring. President Trump is trying to bring this war to an end.
