Ukraine Deploys 28 Ground Robots in Attack on Russian Forces

Ukraine has alarmed Russian forces with a mass assault by ground robots along part of the frontline.

Reports described the operation as the “largest visually recorded clash involving ground robots” of the war so far.

The attempted advance involved 28 unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) operated by Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps against positions held by Russia’s 20th Combined Arms Army near Lyman in the Donetsk region.

Russia said the assault had been “repelled,” but military observers expressed concern that Ukraine is moving to turn combat UGVs from support equipment into an independent strike capability.

According to reports, Ukraine deployed two vehicles fitted with Mk-19 automatic grenade launchers, 18 armed with rocket-propelled grenades and carrying two AT-4 anti-tank weapons each, along with eight kamikaze UGVs.

The Russian war channel Military Observer warned: “Although the attack was repelled, it is another indication that enemy drone warfare on the front is gradually reaching a new level.”

Pro-war outlet Tsargrad said the operation near Lyman represented the first effort to use ground robots in a way that closely mirrored an infantry assault.

Russian sources said the Ukrainian “metal armada” operated without aerial protection and became vulnerable to attack drones after its advance was detected.

Video footage showed Russian strikes hitting the Ukrainian robots in a vivid example of the changing nature of the conflict.

However, Russian military analysts warned that more refined tactics could eventually allow Ukraine to push forward while limiting the risk to its troops.

The reports emerged as Ukraine targeted a sixth major Russian oil facility within a week.

The Afipsky Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region was engulfed in flames following a series of major explosions.

The facility is an important supplier of fuel for Russia’s war effort against Ukraine and for occupied Crimea.

It has now reportedly been attacked 17 times since the war began.

The strikes came as Donald Trump predicted an imminent peace deal that could involve “all of Europe.”

“It’s going to be a big, beautiful agreement and everyone’s going to be thrilled,” the US president said.

Trump made the comments after talks with Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund and a senior envoy for Vladimir Putin.

Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, meanwhile held discussions in Brussels with Ukrainian, NATO and European officials, including representatives from Britain, on security guarantees for Kyiv and the design of a new European security framework.

A US delegation is due to mediate talks between Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the conflict was nearing a settlement and suggested that any agreement could extend beyond Ukraine.

“It’s going to be a big agreement, and it’s going to involve more than Ukraine,” Trump said. “I could even say it might involve all of Europe. It’s going to be a big, beautiful agreement, and everyone’s going to be thrilled.”

Trump has repeatedly said a deal to end Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War Two was within reach. Diplomatic activity, however, has intensified in recent weeks.

In a social media post, Kushner said negotiators were focusing on five key objectives: permanent security consultations, dependable crisis communications, increased military transparency, reciprocal steps to lower the risk of escalation, and a lasting framework for European security and stability.

“Any arrangements must fully respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independent decision-making of every nation,” Kushner said. “Each country will retain authority over its own security and alliances, and no country would have a veto over another’s sovereign choices.

“NATO will remain central to European collective defence, and this initiative would build on existing institutions and commitments.”
