New insights are emerging about the individual responsible for the recent terrorist assault in Washington, D.C., which resulted in two West Virginia National Guard members being critically injured and hospitalized.

Described by investigators as a calculated ambush, the attack unfolded mere blocks from the White House at approximately 2:15 p.m. Eastern time.

As previously covered, D.C. Metro Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Jeff Carroll informed the media during a press conference that “Around 2:15 this afternoon, National Guard members were conducting high visibility patrols near 17th and I Street NW when a suspect suddenly appeared, raised a firearm, and opened fire on the guardsmen.”

As we previously reported, D.C. Metro Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Jeff Carroll told reporters during a D.C. presser that “At approximately 2:15 this afternoon, members of the National Guard were on high visibility patrols in the area of 17th and I Street NW when a suspect came around the corner, raised his arm with the firearm, and discharged at the National Guard members.”
