On Saturday, CNN’s Van Jones expressed concern about the potential glorification of the suspect linked to an alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
Jones, known for his liberal viewpoints, highlighted how figures like Luigi Mangione have been romanticized in the past, urging a collective stand against political violence.
Jones remarked, “What troubles me is that the shooter survived, and when he appears in court on Monday, there’s a risk he might be turned into a hero. Consider what happened with Luigi [Mangione], who was idolized after killing a CEO. Tonight, we witnessed both the worst and the best of America. My hope is that we don’t revert to the worst. Let me be clear — such reprehensible acts have no place in our society, irrespective of political affiliation.”
He added, “We’re unsure if his motives were to harm Democrats, Republicans, journalists, or politicians, as all were present. This behavior is unacceptable in America. Violence is not a solution. There’s a disturbing trend of glorifying violence against billionaires or other groups, and it must be condemned immediately. Everyone with a voice must speak against it, or this cycle will continue.”
