Unpacking the Real Impact: How Donald Trump’s Policies Are Fueling Skyrocketing Gas Prices

During Thursday’s episode of “The Beat” on MS NOW, James Carville, a prominent Democratic strategist, asserted that the recent spike in gas prices could be entirely attributed to former President Donald Trump.

Host Ari Melber brought up a shift in political dynamics, highlighting that some Republicans are aligning with Democrats in an effort to address the ongoing war. “It’s late, to be clear,” Melber noted, but mentioned specific Republicans such as Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Rand Paul, who have voiced support for a Senate resolution aimed at ending the conflict. Melber queried Carville on the potential impact of this bipartisan stance on the upcoming midterm elections.

Carville responded emphatically, “Absolutely, it’s going to be significant. This war will have a major impact.” He elaborated that while President Joe Biden faced criticism for inflation due to supply chain issues as the pandemic waned, the cost of gas is an entirely separate issue. Carville argued that the increase in gas prices is directly linked to Trump’s actions, with no other external factors at play. “Typically, in politics, you might point to supply and demand issues,” he continued, “but in this case, it’s unequivocally due to Trump starting a war, which drove gas prices up and placed a burden on consumers.”
