DRAPER residents are on high alert after a coyote attacked a family’s beloved dog.
Paula Coggins took her 11-year-old Pomeranian Chihuahua outside for a routine potty break and hasn’t seen the dog since.
“As soon as he grabbed him, I heard a gasp sound and I knew what it was,” Coggins told KSLTV.
On October 10th at around 9:15pm, Coggins and her dog Koda were out for a walk.
Within minutes of Coggins standing by the sidewalk in front of her home, a coyote darted across the yard and grabbed sweet Koda by the neck.
“It picked him up like he was a toy and I chased him over to the corner, and as soon as I got around the corner they were just gone in the night,” Coggins recalls.

Coggins says that her daughter got Koda when she was in high school and that he’s been a big part of the family ever since.
Though Coggins claims that her son and husband searched for Koda following the chilling incident, Koda was never found.
The family is now sharing their experience as a way to warn others.
“If it wasn’t afraid of me yelling and rushing it, it could grab anything,” Coggins said.
City officials said they’ve been receiving numerous reports of coyote sightings since Koda’s disappearance.
Five animal deaths linked to coyotes have occurred in the past few months.
According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Utah’s predator control program will pay hunters $50 for any documented coyote kill within permitted areas.
