AN urgent warning has been issued after LG solar batteries were recalled, as horror pictures showed the household items exploding into flames.

Australians living in homes with solar storage systems have been urged to check whether they have any of the potentially-dangerous batteries installed.

The alert has been raised across the country, with officials warning people are at serious risk of injury or death if the batteries overheat and catch fire.

They say the products now being recalled could be branded LG, Eguana, Opal, Red Earth, SolaX or VARTA, news.com.au reported.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission told anyone finding the affected batteries to immediately switch them off as well as their solar energy storage systems.

ACCC deputy chair Catriona Lowe said: “It is critically important that anyone with a solar energy storage system checks their battery’s serial number, as this recall has been updated to include new models, affected systems and dates of manufacture.

“Even if you don’t have an LG-branded solar storage system, you may still have an LG-branded battery that has been recalled.

“For peace of mind, check your system again and turn off your battery straight away if it has been recalled.

“Please put your safety first and follow this important advice to switch off.”

She added that LG would be compensating consumers on their electricity bills as a result, as well as providing free battery replacements or software updates if needed.

LG Electronics advised people to enter their battery serial numbers online to check whether they were included in the recall.

The firm said: “The affected ESS Home Batteries may overheat and catch fire and cause injury or death and/or damage to property.

“Incidents have occurred and caused damage to property.”

Earlier this summer 2,700 cars were melted on a cargo ship after a suspected EV fire caused damage worth millions of pounds.

And last month Porsche and Audi, both owned by the VW Group, warned some models have a battery problem which could cause danger.
