A NUCLEAR-powered U.S. Navy aircraft carrier has smashed into a merchant vessel near Egypt.

The incident in the Mediterranean Sea came hours after a Navy jet slammed into the water near a naval base in San Diego Bay.

The aircraft carrier collided with a merchant vessel near Egypt, the U.S. military revealed on Thursday.

However, the nuclear-powered carrier remained stable, and there were no injuries.

In a statement, the U.S. Navy said the carrier Harry Truman collided with the Besiktas-M late Wednesday night.

The incident occurred while the gigantic vessel was operating near Port Said in Egypt.

“The collision did not endanger the Harry S. Truman as there are no reports of flooding or injuries.

“The propulsion plants are unaffected and in a safe and stable condition,” the Navy added.

It happened on the same day that a US Navy jet plunged into the sea just seconds after its two pilots ejected.

The plane, a E/A-18G Growler Electronic Warfare aircraft, dived into San Diego Bay not far from the naval base it was coming into land at at around 10.15am local time on Wednesday.
