Here we get to know incoming Second Lady Usha Chilkuri Vance’s parents Krish and Lakshmi.
Who are Krish and Lakshmi Chilukuri?
Krish and Lakshmi Chilukuri are the parents of Usha Vance, wife of the man who will be America’s third-youngest vice-president ever — JD Vance.
After tying the knot, Usha’s mom and dad moved to the US in the 1980s from Andhra Pradesh, India.
They relocated to the upper-middle-class suburb of Rancho Peñasquitos, San Diego — where their daughter Usha was born and raised.
Usha earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University, before obtaining a master’s in early modern history from Cambridge University.
She then returned to the US to attend Yale Law School, where she met her future husband.
Usha’s parents are both practising Hindus.
Speaking of their religion, Usha told Fox News: “My parents are Hindu and that’s one of the things that made them such good parents and good people.
“And I have seen the power of that in my own life.”
Krish Chilukuri’s career
Usha’s dad Radhakrishna Chilukuri, also known as Krish, is an accomplished engineer and educator.
He completed his BTech in mechanical engineering in India before moving to the States, where he continued his higher education and obtained a master’s degree in aerodynamics.
Krish built a successful career in the aerospace industry, working for United Technologies Aerospace Systems.
He went from working as an aerodynamics specialist to undertaking a managerial position within a decade with the firm.
Krish also later worked for Collins Aerospace.
Following his retirement from the industry, Krish transitioned to academia.

He is a lecturer in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at San Diego State University.
Lakshmi Chilukuri’s career
Lakshmi Chilukuri, Usha’s mother, is a distinguished academic in the field of biology.
She currently holds the position of provost at the University of California, San Diego,
A provost is a senior academic administrator who serves as the chief academic officer at a college or university.
This high-level position involves critical responsibilities in overseeing the institution’s educational operations
She also teaches at the university, specializing in molecular biology.
