Steve Smith gets his century!

Steve Smith has delighted his hometown crowd with a spectacular century.

The Australian interim captain delivered a remarkable performance, moving into second place for the most centuries scored in the Ashes series. With his 13th century against England, Smith has surpassed the legendary Jack Hobbs.

At the top of the leaderboard remains the iconic Don Bradman, who achieved 19 Test centuries throughout his Ashes career.

Smith undoubtedly felt the pressure to excel at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Earlier today, he also overtook Hobbs to become the second-highest run-scorer in Ashes history, trailing only Bradman. As Smith approached the 90s, his determination was palpable, as he nervously aimed to secure his century.

The moment finally arrived in the 109th over, bringing the home crowd to their feet.

Smith, on 97, pulled Jacob Bethell out to long leg. The shot didn’t quite have the legs to go for four, with he and Beau Webster just managing to get back for three.

It was the Australian’s first century of the series, and the 37th of his career, with Smith holding his bat aloft to his home fans as he celebrated the huge milestone
