Political commentator Van Jones said Thursday that President Donald Trump appeared out of step with public sentiment during an appearance on CNN’s “The Source.”
Earlier that morning, speaking at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, Trump said, “We salute the service members working right now to ensure the world’s number one sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran, will never, ever have a nuclear weapon.”
Host Kaitlan Collins asked Jones whether he believed the president’s remarks were appropriate.
“I think he was out of touch with the feelings of most Americans today,” Jones responded.

Collins also noted that Trump had reposted on social media the video he originally shared on Jan. 6, in which he urged Capitol rioters to go home and called for peace. “We love you. You’re very special,” Trump said in the video, referring to people who had ransacked the Capitol.
Jones said the repost caught his attention but left him confused. He described those who attacked the Capitol as “not patriotic,” “not heroes,” “traitors” and “treasonous,” arguing that Jan. 6 should not have been brought back into focus on a day meant to honor the “actual patriots and the heroes of 9/11.” Jones added that Trump was “just not in sync with where the American people are,” saying he did not believe anyone woke up wanting to discuss Jan. 6 that day.
