UNIVISION news anchor Leon Krauze has announced a major life change just days after the network aired a controversial interview with former President Donald Trump.

Krauze had been a national news anchor for Univision Notices on Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna with a previous position as an anchor for KMEX, the company’s station in Los Angeles.

It’s unclear why Krauze left the network – a source told The Hollywood Reporter that he had time left on his contract.

TelevisaUnivision expresses our heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding contributions, expertise, and insightful analyses delivered by Leon Krauze throughout his tenure with our news division,” said the company in a statement.

“We sincerely appreciate his dedicated efforts in empowering and informing Hispanic communities at both the national and local levels for over a decade. We extend our best wishes to Leon in all his future professional endeavors.”

Krauze wrote on social media that he appreciated the kind words people said to him and that he would release a statement about his “professional future” soon.

“After thirteen rewarding years, my journey with @Univision Noticias concluded yesterday,” Krauze wrote on Wednesday.

“It has been an absolute honor and privilege to be a part of this exceptional team of journalism professionals.

“I depart with profound gratitude for my friends and colleagues at Univisión, Los Angeles. Together, we shared unforgettable years, embracing community journalism as a true way of life.”

His exit comes as the network faced heavy scrutiny following the interview with Trump.

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Democrats were shocked at the tone used in the interview and were upset that ads purchased by the Biden administration to run during the interview were abruptly canceled.

Veteran reporter Enrique Acevedo, who also anchors the Televisa show En Punto, conducted the interview.

Acevedo also worked as a correspondent for 60 Minutes and moderated a presidential debate for Univision in 2016.

During the interview, Trump answered questions on the Latino vote, foreign policy, and the economy.

“The Latino vote is so incredible because they’re unbelievable people,” Trump told Acevedo.

“They have incredible skills, incredible energy, and they’re very entrepreneurial. All you have to do is look at the owners of Univision. They’re unbelievable entrepreneurial people.

“And they like me. You know, there’s never been anything like it in the Republican Party. I’ve been a Republican and am a Republican, and we have tremendous support from the, I call Hispanic, Latino, you have lots of different terms. But it all means the same thing as far as I’m concerned.”

TelevisaUnivision co-hosted a Republican primary debate in September with Ilia Calderón as the moderator with hosts from Fox Business Network.
