Watch: WH Spokesman’s Claim of Seeing a Sharp Biden ‘Every Day’ Crumbled in Front of House Investigators

Ian Sams, a former spokesperson for the White House, recently found himself facing tough inquiries from House investigators, challenging his previous assertions about then-President Joe Biden’s cognitive capabilities.

In a notable appearance on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House,” Sams had confidently portrayed Biden as being exceptionally sharp, despite a lackluster debate performance against then-candidate Donald Trump. This depiction was part of a broader narrative pushed by administration officials, which often contradicted public perceptions.

What distinguished Sams’ narrative was his unwavering claim of witnessing Biden’s undiminished mental sharpness “every single day.” This statement was made in the face of widespread skepticism about Biden’s mental acuity, which had become a topic of public debate.

At the time, Sams had lauded a speech given by Biden following the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity, using it as an example of Biden’s command over his mental faculties. He presented this as evidence of the president’s ability to lead effectively.

Speaking to MSNBC host Nicole Wallace, Sams remarked, “That’s the President Biden many of us encounter daily, who poses challenging questions to ensure we, as his staff, remain sharp and capable of serving the American people effectively.”

“That’s the President Biden that so many of us experience every single day, who’s asking the tough questions so that we as staff can be sharp to do our job best for the American people,” Sams told MSNBC host Nicole Wallace.

“When I deal with him,” he would later add, “he is sharp. He’s asking tough questions.”

Sharpness. That we experience every day. The implication was clear. Biden’s cognitive fumble during the debate was an anomaly and not the norm.

Sams’ story changed significantly when he faced intense scrutiny during a closed-door transcribed interview with the House Oversight Committee that August.

The narrative quickly unraveled when Sams was pressed on the frequency and nature of his interactions with Biden. He admitted to only interacting with the president “three or four times”, of which only two of those were actual in-person meetings. This was over two years of service in the White House.

Turns out the administration’s policy of keeping Biden in the basement went beyond just the public; apparently, he was kept away from key spokespeople as well.

“The first time I met President Biden personally was in a meeting, maybe in early 2024,” Sams told Oversight Committee investigators, adding, “I interacted with him pretty infrequently.”

Infrequently ≠ Every day.

When asked about how he had characterized viewing a “sharp” Biden just about “every single day,” Sams insisted that it was accurate.

“I think it was pretty direct and honest and said that when I do deal with him, he’s, you know, sharp and he was asking incisive questions during my meetings with him,” he claimed without evidence.

The House Oversight committee posted video of Sams’ contradictory statements and slammed him for “lying.”

“Ian Sams, one of Joe Biden’s spokespersons, met with him only TWICE in over TWO YEARS,” they wrote on X. “Then he would go on live television and say he interacted with him EVERY SINGLE DAY. He was LYING to the American people to cover up for Biden’s decline.”

Chairman of the Oversight Committee James Comer hinted in August that Sams’ interview provided some pretty stunning information about the public cover-up of Biden’s decline.

“It raises serious concerns and serious questions about who was calling shots at the White House,” Comer said. “If the White House spokesperson was being shielded from the president of the United States, who was operating the Oval Office?”

It’s a good question. One that has yet to be answered.
