Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on Monday said he was “in touch with Delta” following the crash landing of a flight at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The flight originated at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in Waltz’s state.

“I’m in touch with Delta after a flight taking off from MSP crash landed in Toronto this afternoon,” Walz said in a post on the social platform X. “Grateful to the first responders and professionals on the scene.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement emailed to The Hill that Delta Air Lines flight 4819 “crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport” Monday afternoon. It said everyone on the flight had been evacuated.

Delta said in its own statement that nobody had died due to the crash, according to first reports.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on X Monday that investigators from the FAA were on their way to Toronto and that he had “been in touch with my counterpart in Canada to offer assistance and help with the investigation.”

“Several customers with injuries were transported to area hospitals. Our primary focus is taking care of those impacted,” the airline said.

In his own Monday post on the social platform X, Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer (R) said he was “praying for the passengers and crew who were aboard Flight 4819 and are pleased to see initial reports that no lives have been lost.”

Emmer’s post came in response to another post from a local Minnesota television station featuring a link to a report on the Delta flight.

In a Monday deployment notice obtained by The Hill, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said that it was “deploying a team of investigators following an accident involving an aircraft operated by Delta Airlines that occurred today at the Toronto / Lester B. Pearson International Airport.”

The Hill has reached out to Transport Canada for comment.
