THIS is the shocking moment two guests at a wedding carried out a sweet tradition in a very over-the-top way that left other people raging.

Dramatic footage showed the guests throwing shovels of rice over a newlywed couple outside a church in Spain.

It happened when the bride and groom walked outside of the church where they got married to be greeted by the guests.

Some of them let off confetti cannons, but two men had piles of rice ready to throw at the.

Footage showed the two men using shovels to toss heaps of rice over the couple.

One of them even walked up to the bride and groom and poured more rice from a box.

The bride was forced to take cover underneath her veil while the groom turned his face away.

The ordeal went on for more than one minute.

Both the bride and groom appeared to shake off their outfits to brush off the dust from the rice.

Finally, when the guests stopped throwing rice at them, they both kissed and put on a smile.

Throwing rice at weddings is an ancient nuptial tradition that acts as a blessing for fertility and prosperity.

But some locals were outraged by the way the tradition was carried out.

People had strong opinions on the rice throwing, and thought that it went on for a little longer than necessary.

One said: “The one with the shovel goes home.”

Another person added: “But have you seen how the bride and groom’s suits turned out? Some guests go crazy, and you can’t take them anywhere.”

A third person raged: “They would automatically stop being my friends.”

While a fourth said: “They give you the traditional handful, okay, but when there are two or three who have a hard time stopping, it makes you wonder if they love you or if they are venting their anger at that moment.”

Another person added: “When you are the friend, it is funny, but when you get married, I don’t think it will be so funny.”
