AT LEAST 22 people were killed and dozens injured in two mass shootings at a bowling alley and a restaurant in Lewiston, Maine.
Officials launched an intensive manhunt for a person of interest after the tragic events of Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023.
What happened in the Lewiston mass shooting?
Bowling alley Sparetime Recreation was filled with families playing games when the shooting began about 7.15pm – the night of a scheduled youth event.
Adults and children were seen fleeing the business, being patted down by cops, and being loaded into an ambulance.
There was another shooting at Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant, who posted early Thursday morning, October 26, 2023: “My heart is crushed. I am at a loss for words. In a split second your world gets turn upside down for no good reason.
“We loss great people in this community. How can we make any sense of this. Sending out prayers to everyone.”
Where is Lewiston?
Lewiston is the second-largest city in Maine and the most central in Androscoggin County.

It lays halfway between the state’s capital, Augusta, and Portland.
The city has a 2023 population of about 36,000.
What do we know about the person of interest, Robert Card?
Person of interest Robert Card is a 40-year-old certified firearms instructor and member of the US Army Reserve, according to local law enforcement officials.
He recently made threats to carry out a shooting at a military training base in Saco, Maine and previously reported hearing voices, said officials.
Card spent two weeks at a mental health facility in the summer of 2023.
Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck told press after the shooting: “We’re not prepared to go into [Card’s] background.”
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office released a photo of the person of interest wearing a brown jacket, blue pants, and tan shoes.
Armed with an AR-15-style rifle with a laser optic, the gunman was pictured stalking the bowling alley packed with kids.
