FORMER House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted by the Republican Party on October 3, 2023.

He has since stated that he will not run again, which gives him more time to spend with his kids, Connor and Meghan McCarthy.

Who is Kevin McCarthy?

Kevin McCarthy is a Republican politician who was born on January 26, 1965, in Bakersfield, California.

In 2023, he was appointed to serve as the 55th speaker of the United States House of Representatives, however, a few months after being sworn in, he was ousted by his own party, becoming the first House Speaker in history to be removed from the position.

The move was led by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz after McCarthy approved a 45-day bill that kept the government open.

“I will not seek to run again for Speaker of the House. I may have lost a vote today, but I fought for what I believe in—and I believe in America,” McCarthy said of the historical event. “It has been an honor to serve.”

Prior to his controversial speakership, he served as a California State Representative from 2002 to 2006.

In 2013, he was also re-elected to serve as the representative for California’s 20th district, which is made up of most of the San Joaquin Valley.

He will be up for re-election once again in 2024.

When McCarthy is not on the House floor, he can often be found at home, spending time with his wife, Judy McCarthy.

The pair met at Bakersfield High School and fell in love at a young age.

They have been married since 1992 and online reports state that they still reside in the first home they bought together.

“Judy is the ultimate ‘there you are’ person, always looking for a way to support the people around her, and treats everyone with respect,” her close friend Sally Thornberry said. 

While Judy might stay out of the spotlight, she has been seen helping her husband’s party over the years.

In 2014, Judy served as a trustee at Ford’s Theatre — the site of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination – during which time, she also worked full-time for the California Republican Party, raising hundreds of thousands in fundraiser money.

Since tying the knot, McCarthy and his wife have welcomed two children, a son, Connor, and a daughter, Meghan.

While McCarthy might have a high-profile career, his children often stay out of the spotlight and off social media.

Not much is known about their personal lives but in February 2021, McCarthy took to Instagram to congratulate his son on marrying the “love of his life.”

“My son married the love of his life in December—and though the wedding was small, the love we have for them could not be bigger,” he captioned the post. “I’m a very proud dad!”
