A CAREGIVER stands accused of killing her friend by poisoning her with tetrahydrozoline, the main ingredient found in eye drop medications.

Jessy Kurczewski has denied all of the charges brought against her for Lynn Hernan’s death.

Who is Jessy Kurczewski and what was she accused of?

Born on February 18, 1984, Jessy Kurczewski is a former caretaker from Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

On July 9, 2019, Kurczewski was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of felony theft.

Kurczewski’s charges stem from 61-year-old Lynn Hernan’s homicide investigation; the latter died on October 3, 2018.

The defendant and the alleged victim were believed to be close friends.

Kurczewski recalls knowing Hernan all of her life, the latter was close friends with the former’s mother.

Kurczewski stated to police that she used to pay Hernan a visit at least two to three times a day.

She further told authorities she was Hernan’s power of attorney because the victim had no family contacts.

According to prosecutors, Kurczewski defrauded Hernan of $290k.

They also allege Kurczewski poisoned Hernan with tetrahydrozoline and staged her homicide to appear as a suicide.

On the victim’s day of death, it was initially believed she died from a prescription drug overdose.

At a later date, an autopsy report discovered lethal amounts of tetrahydrozoline in her system.

Tetrahydrozoline is a main ingredient found in most eye drop medications.

When is Kurczewski’s trial?

On October 24, 2023, Kurczewski’s trial for Hernan’s homicide began its proceedings.

“This is a case of murder, greed, and lies,” Assistant District Attorney Randy Sitzberger told the court.

“Lynn Hernan became worth more dead than alive to Jessy Kurczewski.”

Kurczewski and her defense team have denied all the charges.

They countered: “If Lynn Hernan was here today, she would say, are you crazy prosecution?

“That’s my daughter that you have sitting at that desk over there.”
