Who is Mia Shem?

Mia Shem is a 21-year-old Israeli-French woman who is being held captive in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian terror group – Hamas.

On October 16, 2023, Hamas released their first clip showing Mia gazing tiredly into the camera, as her arm lay wrapped in a slip on her lap.

The 21-year-old is then shown receiving medical care for her wounded arm before telling the camera she is being held in Gaza and pleading for her release.

In the one-minute-long video posted to Telegram, Mia can be heard saying: ”They are taking care of me, giving me medicine, everything is fine.

“I only ask that they bring me home as soon as possible to my parents, to my siblings.

“Get me out of here as soon as possible. Please.”

Mia also mentioned that she had just undergone a three-hour-long surgery in Gaza, according to a translation from Hebrew by the Jerusalem Post.

What happened to Mia Shem?

On October 7, 2023, Mia Shem was snatched by the Palestinian terror group during their initial brutal assault on Israel at the Supernova music festival.

At least 260 festivalgoers lost their lives as a result of the massacre and more than 190 hostages were taken by the terror group.

Following the horrific attack, The Israel Defense Forces [IDF] confirmed that Mia had been kidnapped.

Her family also confirmed that they had witnessed the disturbing hostage video and that it was Mia in the clip.

Mia’s aunt Galit told Israeli media: “Today [the family] called me screaming and told me that they see Mia in a video on Telegram.

“I saw her, and I thought I was dreaming. I finally saw the girl after all this time.

“She looks hurt and scared – but at least she’s alive.”

She added: ”We demand that the countries of the free world make sure that she return to us.

”She was with a very good friend of hers – Elya Toledano, and we heard nothing more about him. We want to know he’s okay.”

Mia’s devastated mother, Keren Shem, who last spoke to her 21-year-old daughter a day prior to the horrific attack on southern Israel, has also spoken out amid the release of the video.

Speaking at a press conference in Tel Aviv on the morning of October 17, 2023, Mia’s mother broke down while holding up a photo of her stolen daughter.

She said: ”I ask world leaders that my daughter be returned to us in the state that she is today, as well as the other hostages.

”I beg the world to return my baby to me.

”Now she is in Gaza. She is not the only one. There are many adults, children, babies, and Holocaust survivors.

”It is a crime against humanity. All together we need to stop this terror.”
