UZZLE’s untimely death has raised questions about the still-unresolved financial scrutiny facing both him and the popular daytime talk show, Sherri.

Following his work on The Wendy Williams Show, Matt Uzzle oversaw the production and budget of the syndicated TV show Sherri, hosted by Sherri Shepherd, since September 2022.

Who was Matt Uzzle?

Matt Uzzle, 50, worked in the entertainment industry as a producer.

He began his career as a production coordinator and line producer, before eventually catching his big break on The Wendy Williams Show.

Sherri Shepherd replaced Williams as an interim host on her show and later took over Williams’ syndicated time slot with her new show, Sherri, in 2022.

The majority of The Wendy Williams Show’s staff, including Uzzle, followed Sherri to work on her show.

An investigation has been launched to look into Uzzle’s death, though multiple reports have stated that it’s reportedly an apparent suicide.

Beyond a few small news sites, Uzzle’s death has been kept (mostly) under wraps.

His Piermont condo, about an hour northwest of Manhattan, where he was found, last sold for $590,000 in 2015.

It’s currently valued at $782,0000.

Uzzle preferred to stay out of the limelight and wasn’t active on any social media pages before his death.

Detailed information about Uzzle’s personal life, including relationships, remains unknown.

Where did Matt Uzzle work?

Matt Uzzle worked primarily in the entertainment industry.

He’s had several roles working behind the scenes in reality and daytime television.

According to his IMDB, he first worked as a production manager for NBA Inside Stuff, a sports TV series featuring behind-the-scenes activities of NBA players.

He was also a production coordinator on Maury, a tabloid talk show hosted by Maurice Richard Povich, better known as Maury.

Between 1999 and 2007, Uzzle was a production manager for a few episodes of The Montel Williams Show.

Hosted by Montel Williams, the tabloid talk series was similar to shows like Maury and The Jerry Springer Show.

In 2004, he served as the production manager for Crossroads Guitar Festival, a music documentary video from Eric Clapton’s June 2004 Crossroads Guitar Festival.

He was also the production manager for Great Performances, a TV series focusing on filmed and televised versions of theater productions, including operas, ballets, concerts, musicals, and plays.

Uzzle’s big break came in 2008 when he started as a line producer for The Wendy Williams Show.

He worked his way up to being the executive in charge of production for the infamous talk show.

Uzzle even received a daytime Emmy nomination for his work on the show in 2016.

When Wendy Williams stepped down from her show’s 13th season due to personal and medical issues, actress and comedian Sherri Shepherd briefly served as the interim host.

Shepherd then replaced Williams with her own talk show, Sherri, beginning in September 2022.

Most of the production team behind The Wendy Williams Show moved to Sherri, including Uzzle.

Uzzle was responsible for organizing the business, finance, and employment issues for the show.

He oversaw how the production budget was spent, and made sure everything ran smoothly during filming.

What happened to Matt Uzzle?

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Matt Uzzle was found dead during a police welfare check at his home in Piermont, New York.

His death is still under investigation, though multiple sources say he died in an apparent suicide.

Uzzle, who oversaw Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show, Sherri, was reportedly under investigation over his handling of the show’s budget.

The show’s staff had been reportedly complaining about issues with “petty cash” in multiple departments.

Some staff members even thought the show was getting shut down.

Most notably, the show had reportedly not paid rent at their Chelsea Studios location since September 2023.

Sherri’s parent company, Debmar-Mercury, was investigating Uzzle after some inconsistencies were found in the budget.

“Debmar-Mercury has retained [law firm] Morgan Lewis to help us investigate the matter and, pending the outcome of that investigation, will have no further comment,” a spokesman for the firm told DailyMail.com.

When confronted about the budget problems, earlier this month, Uzzle told his superiors that he needed some time to locate and organize his paperwork.

After he failed to show up to work and wasn’t heard from for a few days, a welfare check was conducted at his Piermont condo, where he was found and pronounced dead.

At the end of her talk show on Thursday, February 15, 2024, Sherri Shepherd included an in-memoriam for Uzzle.

Grief counselors have also been reportedly brought in to help the talk show’s staff cope with the tragic loss.
