What Was His Death Cause?

His cause of death is still unknown but he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016. He was two weeks away from turning 97

Bennett’s wife, Susan, was by his side as he took his final breath, The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed after his health deteriorated in the days preceding his death.

The U.S. Sun was informed by a source that “things took a turn for the worse yesterday, and it was obvious to his loved ones that they should be around him.

“Throughout his final days, Susan, his devoted wife, and caregiver, stayed by his side.

“He ultimately passed away early on Friday morning.”

“Life is a gift, even with Alzheimer’s,” he tweeted in 2018.

Despite his illness, he continued to perform live and record new records through 2021.

Who Was Tony Bennett?

The singer was born Anthony Dominick Benedetto on August 3, 1926. His father, Giovanni, was an immigrant from southern Italy who landed in New York City.

His mother, Anna, traveled by ship from Italy to New York before giving birth.

The family of Bennet made their home in Queens’ Long Island City district.

Italian folk melodies were sung to his children by their father, Bennett claims, and this cultivated his love of music.

He claimed in his memoirs that his father was the source of his musical passion.

Before he started performing in front of thousands of fans, Bennett arrived in Europe towards the end of World War II, serving in Germany in the infantry.

He spent time on the front lines but ended up as a singer with the US Army bands.

He is survived by his wife Susan Crow, his sons Danny and Dae, his daughters Johanna and Antonia, and nine grandchildren.

Career

In August 1946, he returned to New York City and started his musical career. Eventually, he rose to fame as one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century.

He was referred to as the world’s most popular vocalist by his colleague Frank Sinatra.

According to him, Sinatra revolutionized his career. He stated as much to CBS’ Sunday Morning in 2015. All of his followers were curious in what he was discussing. And ever since that day. Everywhere I’ve performed has been sold out.

Bennett started off as a crooner of pop songs for the masses before signing with Columbia Records.

He dedicated his musical talent to swing and jazz-influenced traditional American pop in countless concerts and club performances.

His first smash hit came in 1951 with Because of You, which gained popularity on jukeboxes, then reached number one on the pop charts, selling over a million copies.

Bennett’s career continued to skyrocket during the late 1950s with albums such as The Beat of My Heart and Basie Wings, Bennett Sings.

CAREER RESURGENCE

In the middle of the 1960s, when rock ‘n’ roll ruled the American airwaves, his career suffered.

Record executives pushed Bennett to adopt the fad, but he refused and stuck with his classic approach, channeling the best American pop singers like Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, and Sinatra.

Bennett expanded his following to a more youthful, hip audience in the middle of the 1980s when he published the album The Art of Excellence.

Bennett kept releasing CDs throughout this time, including Portrait of the Artist,

Both Steppin’ Out and Perfectly Frank are odes to Fred Astaire and Frank Sinatra, respectively. His tribute CDs went gold, garnered Grammy Awards for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, and further cemented Bennett’s position as the rightful heir to the mantle of a legendary American musician.

He and the late Amy Winehouse performed a memorable duet on the classic Body and Soul during his final years.

In 2018, Bennett and Diana Krall released the duet album Love Is Here To Stay, which helped him win over a new group of followers.

He collaborated with pop icon Lady Gaga to release the Grammy-winning album Love For Sale in September 2021.

The award-winning album came years after the release of their first successful collaboration Cheek to Cheek, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart.

Bennett’s last public appearance came in August 2021, with the Bad Romance singer at Radio City Music Hall in a show titled One Last Time.
