Can't 'Provide More Funding to an Agency That Is Completely Out of Control'

During Tuesday’s episode of CNN’s “The Source,” Senator Tina Smith from Minnesota discussed her stance on government shutdowns related to ICE funding. She made it clear that she cannot support increasing funds for what she describes as an “out of control” agency. However, she emphasized the need for bipartisan efforts to establish standards for ICE.

The show’s host, Kaitlan Collins, inquired, “Would you consider shutting the government down over ICE funding, as some of your fellow Democrats have proposed?”

In response, Smith stated, “I have been clear that I cannot support increasing funds to an agency operating without checks. I believe Democrats and Republicans need to collaborate to set some standards, such as requiring ICE agents not to wear masks and ensuring they receive basic training. It is Congress’s duty to maintain oversight and impose discipline in such matters. I am urging cooperation across party lines to address these issues, especially in my home state.”
