A woman being presented with an award from Queen Letizia of Spain truly suffered a mishap at the worst time – when she tripped while going up to collect her prize.

According to El Español, the winner was María de los Ángeles García Antón, who is on the board of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

She was being celebrated at a World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day event at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid today.

In videos of the blunder online, an excited María can be seen being helped up some steps when her name was called – before suddenly slipping down, as the Queen and others on stage rush to help her up.

After everyone ensured she was alright, the royal, 50, put her arms around the winner in a quick side hug, appearing to check that all was OK.

María graciously smiled the accident off, bowing to applause as she accepted the award.

Letizia was effortlessly elegant in a chic patterned €325 (£280.88) Philippa1970 dress as she attended the engagement, donning a perfectly summery ensemble as she commemorated the organisation’s staff and volunteers, who provide tireless support for vulnerable communities across the globe.

The button-up design featured an eye-catching print and warm hues of oranges and reds contrasted with darker blue.

She sported black stiletto heels and accessorised with a £1,100 Carolina Herrera bag in a fun, bubblegum pink.

The mother-of-two opted for a simple dewy make-up look, styling her chestnut tresses in relaxed waves.

She then tucked this into some white culottes and finished off her outfit with some matching espadrille wedges.

Oozing effortless glamour, Letizia was pictured with a brown smokey eye and a nude lip.

The Queen completed her sophisticated look with some gold dangly earrings and a white leather handbag with a gold chain.

What’s more, Letizia’s mother-in-law Sofia, 84, also appeared to get the fashion memo as she opted for a pretty light pink blazer with an intricate floral pattern.

Meanwhile, Letizia’s eldest daughter Princess Leonor, 17, wore a sophisticated red floral dress with blue suede espadrilles.

Tying into the dress code, Letizia’s mother Paloma Rocasolano, 71, looked elegant in a salmon tweed jacket and skirt which she paired with a grey velvet clutch.

King Felipe, 55, looked dapper in a dark grey suit while Letizia’s father Jesus Ortiz was suitably smart in a navy style.

Following the ceremony, Letizia, Paloma and her mother-in-law Sofia walked out of the church arm-in-arm.
