According to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Trevor Alvarado died after a trench collapsed on Sand Island Access Road in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

The trench collapses when the pressure of the tons of soil resting on its walls becomes too great.

While this can be an issue at any depth, it can accelerate if other materials are piled along the edge.

Alvarado died in Kona as a result of a trench collapse. According to officials, the incident occurred at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 29th, 2022 at a construction site behind a baseball field.

Other incidents occurred as a result of a trench collapse. In late April 2022, two men were identified as brothers after a trench collapsed in western Michigan.

HiOSH is conducting an investigation into this accident, which could take up to 6 months to complete.

Officials from Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health want to help ensure that accidents like this don’t happen again.

The investigation into a construction accident on Sand Island last month that killed Kona Alvarado is still ongoing.

There must be proper precautions in place to protect workers from such life-threatening accidents. As can be seen on the internet, many workers have died in recent months.
