Tyson Langelaar was inspired to skate by his parents. On February 17, 1999, he was born to a Dutch-Canadian father and mother.
His father and grandfather grew up speedskating through the frozen canals from city to city.
“My parents were never athletes themselves,” Langelaar says, “but maybe they figured that speed skating can skip generations?”
His parents were the first to congratulate him on qualifying for the Olympics.
