After his completion of high school, Derrick was accused of aggravated assault. At first, he was placed on probation for two years.
Since Derrick violated his probation, he was sent to prison. According to Sportskeeda, he was sentenced to five years.
Fortunately, he was released after three and a half years. As soon as he came out of prison, a friend introduced him to mixed martial arts.
In the beginning, he worked as a tow-truck driver and also continued boxing. After competing for his first-ever professional match, he made a decision of his life – to become a martial artist.
Recently, he fought for the title on his 13th release anniversary. Well, Derrick had confirmed that the date was significant to him.
Reportedly, he was under pressure when he fought Ciryl Gane at UFC 265. Sadly, his title hopes ended in the third round after the opponent knocked him down.

Why Was UFC Star Derrick Lewis Arrested?
Derrick Lewis, a UFC fighter, was arrested after being caught in a street brawl.
He was reportedly imprisoned for violating his probation. He was a full-ride football scholarship student at Kilgore College at the time.
According to Sports Manor, Lewis admits that he gives his best to kill his opponent when he is fighting them. Once the fight stops, he changes into a normal person once again.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was reportedly drunk at the time, and he happened to run into a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
According to multiple sources, the man insulted him. Despite the fact that he had a shotgun, Derrick severely beaten him, and he was discovered bloodied.
