Capel entered the Miss Missouri USA pageant in late 2005 and won. She also made it to the top 15 in the Miss Kentucky USA pageant.
Kristi graduated from Heritage Academy in Kentucky in 2001. She won a volleyball scholarship and went to Evangel University, where she had completed a Bachelor of Science degree.

Capel made headlines on February 23, 2015, when he used the term “jigaboo” to refer to Lady Gaga’s performance at the 87th Academy Awards. “It’s difficult to hear her voice with all the jigaboo music, whatever you want to call it – jigaboo,” she continued. I had no idea she had such a lovely voice.

Kristi apologized after the word’s racist status was revealed online. She claimed she didn’t know the word and later tweeted, “I apologize if I offended you; I had no idea what the word was or what it meant. Thank you for your time.”
